Spirituality of architecture

Reading this book and saw this quote thought it was interesting.

Architecture is in fact the first pioneer on the highwya toward the adequate realization of the Godhead... By this means it levels a space for the God, informs His external environment, and building Him His temple, as a fit place for the concentration of the Spirit and for its direction towards the absolute objects of intelligent life. It raises an enclosure for the congregation of those assembled, as a defence against the threating of the tempest, against rain, the hurricane, and savage animals."-Hegel

"Does architecture always incorporate a religious momentum, a movement towards 'the adequate realization of the Godhead'? Does it prepare a place for God? Does it creat a space for spiritual contemplation? Does it offer us a place in which to congregate where we can find protection from the lifethreatening forces of nature?

If we definie the concept of "god" to mean "that which is of the ultimate concern to humanity', and what 'you set your heart on and repose your trust in', then the answer is very simple."
